During lockdown the lovely Alex Stanhope (then at Lancaster) made our 8-bit Ada logo.

We were delighted with this (still are, to be honest, we’ve now got it on stickers, t-shirts and all over the WWW).
The 2021 Lovelace was supposed to be hosted by Lancaster, but the COVID situation forced that one online (again). We wanted a way to brand it as Lancaster though, so we pondered what kind of thing could represent Lancaster… and the answer was a duck.

In 2022 we were still online and hosted by three unis together (why not eh?). Lancaster remained represented by a duck. Aberystwyth chose a seagull – if you’ve ever been to Aberystwyth you’ll realise why.

And London South Bank University chose a pink elephant – there used to be a pink elephant outside the Elephant and Castle shopping centre which is very close to LSBU so the pink elephant is iconic in the area.

For 2023, we were hosted by the University of Sheffield. In person (yay!). However we’d got into the flow of making pixelated mascots so we had to make one for Sheffield too. They chose a Peregrine Falcon – there’s one nesting on their campus (called Allen).
