In 2014 it was held at the University of Reading.<\/p>\n<h3>Speakers:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Anne-Marie Imafidon, of Stemettes<\/li>\n<li>Cate Huston, of Google<\/li>\n<li>Rachel McCrindle, of Reading University<\/li>\n<li>Rebecca Little, of ResourceIT<\/li>\n<li>Jane Haslam, of VICON<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overall sponsors of the day were Google, and the BCS, with generous support in terms of space, time and money from Reading University.<\/p>\n<h3>Poster contests winners:<\/h3>\n<p class=\"post-meta\">MSc contest, sponsored by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fdmgroup.com\/uk-careers\">FDM Group<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best MSC student poster, \u00a3300:<\/strong>\u00a0Maitreyee Wairagkar of Reading Uni, \u201cSeeing Through Walls: Handling Large Datasets\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Final year student (3rd years, or 4th year students on a four year undergrad program) sponsored by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uk.emc.com\/careers\/index.htm\">EMC<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best 3rd year poster, \u00a3300:<\/strong>\u00a0Heather Ellis of Dundee Uni, with \u201cMind The Gap: Using e-Health for Seizure Management to bridge the communication gap between patients and clinicians\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>3rd year runner up, \u00a3200:<\/strong>\u00a0Alexandra Williams of Bath Uni with \u201cTeaching children to code- how is computer programming helping to change the curriculum?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2nd year prize sponsored by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.airbus.com\/work\/\">Airbus<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(This is actually open to students on their 3rd year or on an industrial placement \u2013 basically, this contest is for those students who are between their first and final years of undergraduate study)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best 2nd year poster \u00a3300:<\/strong>\u00a0Charlotte Godley of Hull Uni with \u201cA crowdfunded wearable technology workshop\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>2nd year runner up \u00a3200:<\/strong>\u00a0Angharad Cunningham of Aberystwyth with \u201cStill the minority at 50%\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/about\/careers\/\">Google<\/a>\u00a0Excellence Award for best first year<\/p>\n<p>Google sponsor our best first year prize, and this year, that went to \u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best first year poster \u00a3500:<\/strong>\u00a0Katie Hobson of Aberystwyth, title \u201cA Dip in the Meme Pool\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>People\u2019s choice award, sponsored by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.interface3.com\/\">Interface3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Every year we have a people\u2019s choice award and every attendee gets to vote for their favourite posters (2 votes each), with the most popular on the day getting \u00a3150. This year, for the first time ever, there was a 3-way tie on the people\u2019s choice votes. I think this is an indication of how close the field was.
