Our headline sponsor was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/about\/careers\/students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a>,\u00a0who were back for the 10th year running. As a 10th anniversary celebration, an extra social event was held the evening before, featuring an awesome Hackathon run by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottlogic.com\/\">ScottLogic<\/a>. We had 205 people registered, and it was a superb day of talks, posters, discussion, networking, and slightly too much cake. Developing a bespoke equipment management system\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The final year contest (also open to students in the penultimate year of integrated Masters, e.g. an MEng course) was sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www-03.ibm.com\/employment\/\">IBM<\/a>, and had the following winners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Joint first place (\u00a3300) went to Iveta Dulova\u00a0of University of St Andrews\u00a0with a poster entitled \u201cMobile device based framework for the prediction of early signs of mental health deviations\u201d, and\u00a0Hannah Khoo from Greenwich University with the poster &#8220;Analysing attacks on the CAN bus to determine how they can affect a vehicle&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Joint second place (\u00a3200) went to\u00a0Louise North from the University of Bath with a poster about &#8220;Optimising the energy efficiency of code using static program analysis techniques&#8221;, and Anna Rae Hughes from Sussex Univresity with the poster &#8220;Safeguarding homelessness in a cashless society&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The contest for MSc students (or students in the fourth year of an integrated Masters, e.g. an MEng course) was sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.jobs\/en-gb\">Amazon<\/a>, and the winners were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">First place (\u00a3300) went to Caroline Haigh\u00a0of Southampton\u00a0University, with a poster about \u201cNul points and null values: using machine learning techniques to model Eurovision song contest outcomes\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Second place (\u00a3200) went to Isabel Whistlecroft\u00a0of Southampton\u00a0University, with a poster entitled \u201cCan algorithms emulate abstract art?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">All attendees are asked to vote for the people&#8217;s choice award by selecting their two favourite posters.
